“An environmental horror story with ambitions as vast as the Southwestern sky. The narrative began as a screenplay but works excellently as a graphic novel, with care taken to portray Catch Creek as a community with a complex network of needs, responsibilities, and unpaid debts. fans of thoughtful, character-driven horror will find plenty to dig into. ” - Publishers Weekly

“Not a plea but a visceral scream for climate crisis action. The messaging may not be subtle, but the timely and poignant eco-horror story does not come off as sanctimonious. Moreover, Curtis, Goldman, and Stevens never lose sight of its genre core, relishing in gory, creative deaths.” - Bloody Disgusting

“An unexpectedly brilliant eco-horror comic…” - The Comics Journal

MOTHER NATURE is a labor of bloody love… a five-year project where our climate existentialism bred unexpected creativity. Originating as a screenplay for a to-be-produced film, our graphic novel focuses a young woman named Nova Terrell, out for vengeance after she watches her father die at the hands of Cobalt Electric. Her quest leads her to learn the truth about the company, their clean-water-providing "Mother Nature Project," and the untold horrors it has awakened.

Our story is set in the Four Corners (southwest Colorado, southeast Utah, northeast Arizona, northwest New Mexico), an amazing part of the world where every major source of energy has been mined— and where the climate and resource crises are acutely felt. Jamie, Karl and I are not from Four Corners, so it was our imperative to spend the last five years researching on the ground and speaking to everyone we could, from scientists employed by energy corporations, to environmental groups, and most importantly to Indigenous voices. Our story has a multicultural ensemble, where Navajo characters are front and center. Were lucky to have a chance to collaborate with Navajo artists like Brian Lee Young and Jeremiah Watchman, who we dedicate this book to.

Art will not combat our existential climate crisis, but it can help us process the incomprehensible weight of climate change on a more intimate scale. MOTHER NATURE is designed as a thrilling, disarming genre ride, but its focus has always been the same: one generation deciding what world to leave behind for the next.
